Consultation

You can meet with one of our specialists in gut health to discuss and assess your digestive symptoms and medical history. You may connect with us by tele-consult, in person at one of our 4 clinics, or schedule a home-visit at your convenience.

The goal of the consultation is to diagnose and develop a treatment plan for any digestive issues you may have. This may include a physical examination, laboratory tests, imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a medical procedure where a flexible tube with a camera and light on the end (endoscope) is used to examine the inside of the body. There are several types of digestive endoscopy procedures, including gastroscopy (examination of the stomach), colonoscopy (examination of the colon), polypectomy (removal of polyps from the digestive tract) and ERCP (examination of the bile ducts).

Endoscopy can be used to diagnose and treat various conditions such as acid reflux, ulcers and tumors. No incisions are required. Procedures are performed under sedation and rarely last more than a few minutes. You will be able to resume normal activities the same day.

Acid reflux/GERD

Acid reflux is a condition where stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus, causing heartburn and other symptoms such as chest and/or abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing and a sour taste in the mouth. Acid reflux is one of the diagnostic criteria for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Other symptoms of GERD include regurgitation of food or breathing difficulty, especially after a heavy meal.

Acid reflux can be treated with lifestyle changes, such as stopping smoking, eating smaller meals and avoiding certain trigger foods, and with acid-reducing medication such as antacids and proton pump inhibitors. In chronic or severe cases, endoscopic therapy or keyhole surgery may help.

After The Procedure

After ERCP, you may need to rest in the hospital for a few hours until the sedation wears off. You may also experience bloating and nausea, and a sore throat for a short period after the procedure. Once swallowing returns to normal, you can go back to your usual diet.

If you experience any abnormal symptoms post procedure, seek immediate medical attention as there could be complications that arouse from the procedure.
